Vitamin D

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

Vitamin D is found in many dietary sources such as fish, eggs, fortified milk, and cod liver oil. The sun also contributes significantly to the daily production of vitamin D, and as little as 10 minutes of exposure is thought to be enough to prevent deficiencies.

The major biologic function of vitamin D is to maintain normal blood levels of calcium and phosphorus. Vitamin D aids in the absorption of calcium, helping to form and maintain strong bones. Recently, research also suggests vitamin D may provide protection from osteoporosis, hypertension (high blood pressure), cancer, and several autoimmune diseases.[1]

In a recent study, a team of European researchers has demonstrated that higher levels of vitamin D are associated with improved cognitive function in middle-aged and older men.

The study compared the cognitive performance of more than 3,000 men aged 40 to 79 years, and found that those with higher levels of vitamin D performed consistently better in a test that assesses an individual’s attention and speed of information processing.

The experiment took into account factors such as depression, season and levels of physical activity.

"Previous studies exploring the relationship … produced inconsistent findings, but we observed a significant, independent association between a slower information processing speed and lower levels of vitamin D," says lead author Dr. David Lee from the University of Manchester School of Translational Medicine.[2]

Since vitamin D is primarily synthesized in the skin following sun exposure, and not many people get enough exposure to sunlight on a daily basis, and because of our fast paced lifestyle, nutritional supplements may be the best means to receive this all important vitamin.

TriVita has developed VitaCal-Mag D, which provides five forms of chelated calcium, over 20 bone-fortifying vitamins and minerals, 100% RDI of Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc and Vitamin D, within Chlorophyll-coated tablets that protect the valuable nutrients, which are time-releasing for optimal absorption.

Sonoran Bloom Nopalea

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

Harnessing the power of betalains, a rare and potent class of antioxidants that flourish in the Nopal cactus, TriVita’s Sonoran Bloom Nopalea™ delivers scientifically proven health benefits.

According to Marcelle Pick, NP OB/GYN, "our bodies weren’t designed for modern life. We’re sitting ducks to a daily barrage of toxins, infectious agents and stress, seen and unseen. This kind of demand requires a lot of support to maintain your immune’s system resilience. Our go-go lifestyle just doesn’t make room unless we pay attention – to everything: what we breathe, eat, drink and absorb and feel. It all has a pro- or anti-inflammatory effect, and for most of us, the factors are skewed toward inflammation."[1]

Nopalea™ combines its betalains with other anti-toxic ingredients to combat these poisons where they strike us first: right inside the trillions of cells in our bodies.

By increasing the activity of CYP-2E1, a special enzyme that neutralizes daily toxins, Nopalea™ protects your cells and vital organs-especially your liver-against the carcinogens, hormone disruptors, respiratory toxins, developmental toxins and neurotoxins that are responsible for one-quarter of all the world’s diseases.

When toxins assault your system-or when injury or infection strikes-your body responds with a complex biological process commonly referred to as inflammation. If this inflammation goes unchecked, it can lead to a wide variety of disorders, from stroke to arthritis to heart disease.

Dr. Pick continues, "many experts now see inflammation as arising from an immune system that’s out of control. When you catch a cold or sprain your ankle, your immune system switches into gear. Infection or injury triggers a chain of events called the inflammatory cascade. The familiar signs of normal inflammation – fever, pain, swelling – are the first signals that your immune system is being called into action."

"In a delicate balance of give-and-take, inflammation begins when pro-inflammatory hormones in your body call out for your white blood cells to come and clear out infection and damaged tissue. These agents are matched by equally powerful, closely related anti-inflammatory compounds, which move in to begin the healing process once the threat is neutralized."

Sometimes your own natural anti-inflammatory process is not powerful enough to overcome the inflammation. In other words, the inflammation is more powerful than your natural anti-inflammatory compounds. With said, we need a more powerful anti-inflammatory agent to help our bodies fight the inflammation. And that’s where Nopalea™ comes in.

Nopalea™ specifically targets signs of inflammation in your body and reduces them quickly.[2] Its betalains and other anti-inflammatory ingredients work directly on the fluid surrounding your cells. There, they draw off the toxins and excess water to reduce inflammation and rebalance the cellular environment.

Nopalea’s betalains are not just working inside your body. Your skin is a miraculous covering that protects you from harm. Pollution, toxins, radiation and other potentially damaging influences are kept out of your body by your skin; vital organs are protected inside. One of the first signs of aging is thin, sagging, withered skin that is easily damaged.

Nopalea™ rushes to these damaged areas to shore up your protective layer. The betalains in Nopalea fill in the gaps of your cells (including the cells in your skin) and return them to the firm, robust nature of young cells – at any age. By providing a healthy environment for the cell, betalains keep it from withering.

Today, you can start harnessing the power of the Nopal cactus and its antioxidant-rich healing properties. Click on the Sonoran Bloom Nopalea™ link to learn how.

Sonoran Bloom

Hippocrates became famous for his treatment of disease in accordance with natural laws. In fact, although Hippocrates is called the Father of Medicine, modern medical science completely ignores the self-evident laws of health laid down by him, which state:

Only nature heals, providing it is given the opportunity to do so;
Let food be your medicine and let medicine be your food;
Disease is an expression of purification;
All disease is one.

What did Hippocrates mean when he said that "all disease is one?" I just wonder if he was referring to inflamation? After all, according to medical professionals, "inflammation is a process by which the body’s white blood cells and chemicals protect us from infection and foreign substances such as bacteria and viruses."[1]

According to scientific research, when toxins assault your system-or when injury or infection strikes-your body responds with a complex biological process commonly referred to as inflammation. If this inflammation goes unchecked, it can lead to a wide variety of disorders, from stroke to arthritis to heart disease.

The Nopal cactus has been called a superfruit. That’s because its powerful antioxidant betalains have been known to boost the health and well-being of all who drink in its powers.

But don’t just take our word for it. See what the scientific research community has to say.

TriVita’s Nopalea™ (made from the Nopal cactus) specifically targets signs of inflammation in your body and reduces them quickly.[2] Its betalains and other anti-inflammatory ingredients work directly on the fluid surrounding your cells. There, they draw off the toxins and excess water to reduce inflammation and rebalance the cellular environment.

If it’s true what Hippocrates says, "all disease is one", and if the majority of diseases are in some way related to inflamation and toxins, doesn’t it make sense to try TriVita’s Sonoran Bloom Nopalea™, which has the powerful antioxidant betalains.

"The whole body pain I have been experiencing now for about a year and a half is gone!"

"Just wanted to thank you for Nopalea™. I have noticed so much difference already since I started taking Nopalea™. The whole body pain I have been experiencing now for about a year and a half is gone! My joints were swollen so much that I have not even been able to wear my original wedding ring for 4 years. I finally can now. Thanks so much."

If inflamation is the problem – Nopalea™ may be the solution.

Vitamin Supplements

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

The life expectancy of people has increased considerably during the last 50 years. To make sure that your senior years are lively ones it’s imperative that you lead a healthy lifestyle through a balanced nutritional diet. It’s also vital to get enough sleep and exercise on a regular basis. Taking nutritional supplements plays an important role in reducing the risk of disease as well as supplying the body with anti-aging nutrition, improving its energy and health.

Finding the proper vitamin supplement that fits your needs can be difficult. Not all vitamin supplements are the same. For example, all-in-one or one-a-day type vitamin supplements are not the best source of vitamins and minerals. They cram all the required vitamins and minerals into just one small tablet. In all reality, it’s a great marketing concept, but a waste of time and money.

It’s imperative to be aware of the fact that the nutritional requirements of men and women does differ from one another. Be sure to find out which vitamin supplements are right for your sex. It’s been stated by several nutrition experts that women 30 years and older need to take supplements containing nutrients that help stabilize the female hormones, whereas men ideally need nutrients that benefit prostate health. Whether male of female, you will not find the proper nutrients in an all inclusive multiple vitamin.

To ensure that you’re taking the proper vitamin supplements it’s wise to seek the advice of a nutritional expert. If you do not know one, surf the Internet in the area of nutrition, or nutritional supplements. There are plenty of web sites that offer great products and free advice about what vitamin supplements your should be taking. Make sure you research the pros and cons of any vitamin supplements before spending your hard earned money.

You can learn all about nutritional vitamin supplements by going to TriVita website.

Looking for vitamin supplements? TriVita has a full array of vitamin supplements to choose from.

Weight Loss

The faster your metabolism runs, the more calories you burn. The more you burn, the easier it is to drop pounds. And get this – you can make your metabolism work harder, a lot harder, 24 hours a day.

Getting your metabolism to work at a higher degree is just part of the weight loss process. However, it’s what most nutrition experts say is the fastest way to lose those unwanted pounds.

TriVita’s Leanology is a product that will help you increase your metabolism. Leanology Capsules are made with nutrients – not stimulants – that promote lean body mass while helping reduce body fat. These fat-burning capsules help you avoid storing carbs and sugar as fat, while reducing food cravings.

"You have a huge amount of control over your metabolic rate," says John Berardi, Ph.D., C.S.C.S., author of The Metabolism Advantage. "You can’t affect how many calories it takes to keep your heart beating, but you can burn an extra 500 to 600 calories a day by exercising properly and eating right." And by making a few changes to your routine. [1]

There are approximately 50 million Americans who go on diets each year – yet only 5 percent keep the weight they lose off. Many people trying to lose weight continually struggle to find an effective weight loss method. Unfortunately, there is no magic wand someone can use to lose weight and/or to keep the weight off. Some experts say that the only proven way to lose weight and keep it off is by making permanent lifestyle changes. You must eat healthier, watch portion sizes and be active.

As part of your lifestyle change, I suggest trying TriVita’s Leanology three step system to weight loss. Leanology Weight Loss Capsules are no ordinary "diet pills." They are clinically proven to help reduce body weight and fat and are made with natural, stimulant-free ingredients including Converta™, The Fat Burning Accelerator.

Fat is really just stored energy. When you consume more energy – in the form of food – than your body can use, it is stored as fat. There are about 3,500 calories of energy stored in every pound of excess fat. The nutrients in Converta™ target this stored energy and release it.

Converta™ liberates fat from your diet and your fat cells, and prepares it to be used as energy. Nutrients break down the fats into packets of fuel in your bloodstream and help your cells receive this fuel. Once the fuel enters your cells, it is burned and its energy is released.

Leanology Weight Loss Capsules do much more than convert fat to energy. They also help:

  • Limit cortisol production – the stress-caused hormone that can lead to belly fat
  • Control appetite by minimizing sweets and carb cravings
  • Use the carbs and sugar you consume as energy, rather than storing them as fat, which helps with blood sugar balance

Plus, Leanology Weight Loss Capsules are convenient and easy to use. Simply take the capsules with meals or a healthy snack, such as Leanology Appetite Control Chews.

Weight Loss Motivation

Monday, May 4th, 2009

Why do some people lose weight on their own, while others need the support of an easy to follow structured program? Motivation! Some overweight people are successful at losing weight on their own because they know that it can reduce the threat of heart disease. On the other hand, some overweight people may not see that as a motivating factor.

Becoming, and staying, motivated to lose weight may be easier with a structured weight loss program. Let’s take a look at what you should look for in such a program.

Before joining any structured weight loss program, make sure they will teach you how to change your eating habits and lifestyle factors permanently. For example, make sure they focus in on the importance of physical activity, and how the lack of that activity has contributed to your weight gain.

Make sure that the staff made up of a variety of qualified counselors and health professionals such as nutritionists, registered dietitians, doctors, nurses, psychologists, and exercise physiologists. Before undertaking any weight loss program you want to be evaluated by a physician. It’s important for them to know if you have any health problems, are currently taking any medicine, or plan on taking any medicine, or plan to lose more than 15 to 20 pounds. If your weight control plan calls for a very low-calorie diet, an exam and scheduled follow-up visits to a doctor are suggested.

The program should provide long-term strategies to deal with weight problems you may have in the future. These strategies might include things like setting up a support system and establishing a physical activity routine. After all, the reason for joining a weight loss program is to, not only lose weight but, keep it off.

So make sure you choose a program that teaches skills and techniques to make permanent changes in eating habits and levels of physical activity to prevent weight gain.

Many weight loss methods that rely on diet aids like drinks, prepackaged foods, or diet pills typically don’t work in the long run. However, there is one weight loss system that I’ve found to be very effective, TriVita’s Leanology™.

Leanology™ products are scientifically formulated and physician approved. They are natural, nutrient based, and contain no stimulants. Leanology™ has been clinically proven for optimal, healthy weight loss. The Leanology™ system of products is convenient and easy to use!

The reason Leanology™ has been so effective is because of the three part process. This is not your " take one pill a day" claim to weight loss. It’s a system! It’s a process! It’s a steady, slow process, that gets results. Like anything worth while, weight loss takes time, a conscious effort, and motivation. It does not happen overnight!

Remember, quick weight loss methods DO NOT provide lasting results. Whether you lose weight on your own or with a group, the most important changes are long term. Furthermore, no matter how much weight you have to lose, modest goals and a slow course will increase your chances of both losing the weight and keeping it off.

Nutrition, Vitamins, and Exercise

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

Whether you’re trying to lose weight or live an active healthy life style, nutrition, vitamins, and exercise are vital to your health. We have become as a whole in the western culture, a couch potato, slow moving, over weight and flaccid society. Of course there will always be that smaller percentage of people who get it right and remain fit and healthy. The ones that get it right make a conscious effort with the proper diet and exercise. Congratulations if you’re in that category!

If you consider yourself, non active, take the first step, and make a decision to become healthy and fit. Once you have firmly made that decision you are on your way. Now take the time to evaluate your lifestyle and really look at it. Be honest with yourself about your eating habits and activity level.

You may want to start with a diet program; there are many popular programs out there. The Zone, the Blood Type Diet, Atkins, the South Beach Diet, Weight Watchers and the list goes on. They all have had their share of successes so it is hard sometimes to know what to do. I can only say, do your homework. You will find the right one that works for you and you will be more likely to stick to it.

On the other hand, if you’re not into diet programs, and you just want to get into shape, exercise and the proper nutrition does work. Changing your diet (the food you consume, not a diet program) to eating healthy whole foods is a good way to start. It’ll not only help you lose weight and help you feel better, but it will enhance your quality of life. You’ll have more energy and life just feels better when you are healthy.

Eat raw fruits and vegetables as much as you can especially dark greens. Cooked veggies lose some of their nutrients so eating a salad every day would benefit you. Most of your vitamins and minerals are going to come from fresh fruits and leafy green vegetables. And try to stick to organic on this to avoid the pesticides and chemicals.

Cutting down to smaller portions can help tremendously. A great way to eat less food at one sitting is to drink a glass of water before you eat and then drink more water with your meal. Water takes up a lot of space in your stomach so you will feel full faster and water won’t give you any extra calories.

Find an exercise regimen that you like and will stick to. Pretty much any exercise program will help you lose weight if you stick with it. You will see on TV all the equipment people want to sell you but after watching for a bit you usually know what appeals to you or not. You may just want to pop in a video and exercise with that. If that doesn’t work, go out and play basketball or soccer, or go for a jog.

Some food is deficient in nutrients from growing in poor over used soil, so it might be a good idea to get some good vitamin supplements to assist in getting your daily requirements. Getting the proper vitamins and nutrients in food is the best, but that’s hard to do. If you’re struggling to come up with the proper regiment, find a qualified nutritionist to help. They will help you in selecting what’s best for you.

The proper nutrition, vitamins, and exercise are very important to maintaining a healthy body. The three go hand in hand, but it’s almost impossible to get the necessary vitamins and nutrients through food alone. I recommend that you take a daily vitamin supplement. TriVita has a full array of vitamin supplements to choose from. They also have a weight loss system that can help you keep the weight off.

Study – Vitamin C Protects Healthy Tissues During Chemo Treatments

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

It’s a well known fact that two out of every five Americans will develop some kind of cancer in their lifetime. According to medical experts, chemotherapy (chemo) and radiation therapy still play a large role in the treatment of most cancers, despite their serious side effects.

In an article written by Dr. Christine Northrup, M.D., for Vital Choice, she states, "many doctors are under the impression that it’s not safe to take vitamins while undergoing these treatments-and that vitamins, such as vitamin C, can actually render treatment less effective."

Dr. Northrup continues, "This has never made any sense to me given that supplements help healthy cells stay healthy and also improve overall immunity."

In 2007 there was a definitive study done called, "Antioxidants and Other Nutrients Do Not Interfere with Chemotherapy or Radiation Therapy and Can Increase Kill and Increase Survival."

The two part study, conducted by the Simone Protective Cancer Institute in New Jersey, shows that a single front-page interview (without scientific justification) in a 1997 edition of The New York Times, a single research paper involving mice, and a press release by its author LL led to the erroneous conclusion that vitamin C interfered with chemo and radiation in humans.

Concern was raised over the facts that antioxidants such as vitamin C neutralize free radicals, and most cancer treatments kill cancer cells by generating free radicals. Was one fighting the other?

"Oncologists observed that folic acid (an antioxidant) interferes with methotrexate (one type of chemo). Suddenly, doctors started to accept the unproved notion that this applied to all antioxidants and that taking any supplements or other nutrients would interfere with treatment," states Dr. Northrup.

According to the study, "non-prescription antioxidants and other nutrients actually enhance the ability of these modalities to kill cancer cells. They also help protect healthy tissue and decrease side effects."

I’m not a doctor or medical professional, so don’t take my advice, but I do know how I feel when taking vitamin C and other supplements. Most vitamins and supplements will not have adverse affects on your body, but always talk to your doctor before taking supplements, especially if your under your doctors care and supervision.

My mom used to always say, "take vitamin C, it helps fight colds." I guess there is a lesson we can learn from our mothers.

You can read the complete article by Dr. Northrup at, http://newsletter.vitalchoice.com/e_article001319820.cfm?x=bf3nWNn,b6hFv6bq.

Weight Loss System

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

Food is more powerful than any prescription weight loss pills. The food that you eat can either make you thinner or fatter. One myth that keeps surfacing is "you get fat because of the lack of exercise." I don’t buy that. You get fat because you don’t eat the right foods at the proper time each day.

The time you choose to eat your meals each day is more powerful than any prescription weight loss pill. The reason this is true is because your body is like an "engine", it needs certain foods at certain intervals of each day. If you don’t eat the right foods at the right times then it won’t burn the calories needed to loose weight. You body will wind up storing those calories as fat tissue.

The plain fact is, you gained weight and/or became overweight by eating the wrong foods. No the good news; You can slim down, or loose weight, by eating the proper foods at the proper intervals each day. Yes, it is possible to loose weight by eating food that your body requires to function properly.

If you’re like most people, constantly on the go, and eating fast food, it’s hard to eat the proper food. If that’s the case, you may need a weight loss system to help you loose those unwanted pounds.

That brings me to Leanology. The Leanology Weight Loss System is what you need to be well on your way to healthy weight loss. Leanology offers the most advanced system of weight loss products on the market, as part of an easy 3 Step System to help you lose weight the smart and healthy way!

Leanology products are scientifically formulated and physician approved. They are natural, nutrient based, and contain no stimulants. Leanology has been clinically proven for optimal, healthy weight loss. The Leanology system of products is convenient and easy to use!

Leanology will help you lose the weight you’ve dreamed of. The ingredients in Leanology products are natural, and give you the vitamins, minerals, and essential nutrients you need to get you on your weight loss journey path.

So, if you can’t loose weight by eating the proper food at the proper time, give Leanology a try.

Vitamin B-12

Monday, November 24th, 2008

What is vitamin B12?

Vitamin B12 helps maintain healthy nerve cells and red blood cells [1-4]. It is also needed to help make DNA, the genetic material in all cells. Vitamin B12 is also called cobalamin because it contains the metal cobalt [1-4].

Vitamin B12 is bound to the protein in food. Hydrochloric acid in the stomach releases vitamin B12 from proteins in foods during digestion. Once released, vitamin B12 combines with a substance called intrinsic factor (IF). This complex can then be absorbed by the intestinal tract.

How can I get vitamin B12?

Vitamin B12 is naturally found in foods that come from animals, including fish, meat, poultry, eggs, milk, and milk products. Fortified breakfast cereals are a particularly valuable source of vitamin B12 for vegetarians.

Recommendations for vitamin B12 are provided in the Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs) developed by the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies [5]. Dietary Reference Intakes is the general term for a set of reference values used for planning and assessing nutrient intake for healthy people.

A deficiency may occur as a result of an inability to absorb vitamin B12 from food and in strict vegetarians who do not consume any foods that come from animals [6]. As a general rule, most individuals who develop a vitamin B12 deficiency have an underlying stomach or intestinal disorder that limits the absorption of vitamin B12 [7]. Sometimes the only symptom of these intestinal disorders is subtly reduced cognitive function resulting from early vitamin B12 deficiency.

We need Vitamin B-12 in a form that is readily usable by the body. Vitamin B-12 deficiency is the most common vitamin deficiency in people over 50. Vitamin B-12 deficiency may cause everything from fatigue and grumpiness, to mental confusion and mental exhaustion. Anemia and dementia may follow later.

Caution: Folic Acid and vitamin B12 deficiency

Folic acid can correct the anemia that is caused by vitamin B12 deficiency. Unfortunately, folic acid will not correct the nerve damage also caused by vitamin B12 deficiency [1,9]. Permanent nerve damage can occur if vitamin B12 deficiency is not treated. Folic acid intake from food and supplements should not exceed 1,000 ?g daily in healthy individuals because large amounts of folic acid can trigger the damaging effects of vitamin B12 deficiency [5]. Adults older than 50 years who take a folic acid supplement should ask their physician or qualified health care provider about their need for additional vitamin B12.

Before taking any dietary supplement, you should talk to a health care professional or doctor. The information in this article is just to inform people of the health risks related to vitamin B12 deficiency. Although my information comes from reliable sources, it’s up to the reader to verify this information.

Wouldn’t you like to recapture the energetic feeling of your youth? Now you can with the help of Dr. Libby’s original, patented Sublingual B-12, B-6 & Folic acid. TriVita’s tasty tablets dissolve under the tongue to speed B vitamins directly to the blood stream where they go to work.

Why are B vitamins so essential to brain function? That’s because our brains must have them to function properly. Our B reserves become depleted when we age, resulting in premature aging and greater susceptibility to sickness.
