Sonoran Bloom

Friday, July 31st, 2009

During my recent Google search for additional information on inflammation, I cam across an article that was first published in the February 24th, 2004 issue of TIME magazine. On of the most ridiculous quotes from this article, at least in my opinion, is "They have discovered that inflammation is critical to many diseases, which they did not know before." [1] What? They just discovered that theory in 2004?

Wasn’t it Hippocrates (born around 460 BC), who by the way was called the "Father of Medicine" [2], the one that said, "All Disease is One"? I would imagine if the early so-called medical experts would have taken what Hippocrates to heart, and paid attention to what he was trying to communicate, many of the diseases we have to day could be cured, like "sickle cell anemia … MS, Lupus, and other autoimmune diseases … Parkinsons … Alzheimers … CANCER … heart attacks … DIABETES … arthritis … even such simple things as dental hygiene."

What do you suppose Hippocrates meant when he said that "all disease is one?" Do you think he was referring to inflammation? After all, according to medical professionals, "inflammation is a process by which the body’s white blood cells and chemicals protect us from infection and foreign substances such as bacteria and viruses." [3]

Studies continue to try and determine not only the source of inflammation but also a cure.

"…inflammation has become one of the hottest areas of medical research. Hardly a week goes by
without the publication of yet another study uncovering a new way that chronic inflammation does harm
to the body. It destabilizes cholesterol deposits in the coronary arteries, leading to heart attacks and
potentially even strokes. It chews up nerve cells in the brains of Alzheimer’s victims. It may even foster
the proliferation of abnormal cells and facilitate their transformation into cancer. In other words, chronic
inflammation may be the engine that drives many of the most feared illnesses of middle and old age." [4]

In an effort to find a cure, many non-prescription products continue to pop up in the market. For several years now, Mangosteen, which according to some studies, is "compared to the strongest anti-inflammatory drug available." [1] I believe, at one time, that may have been the case. However, today we have a new discovery, TriVita’s Sonoran Bloom Nopalea™.

TriVita’s Nopalea™ (made from the Nopal cactus) specifically targets signs of inflammation in your body and reduces them quickly.[5] Its betalains and other anti-inflammatory ingredients work directly on the fluid surrounding your cells. There, they draw off the toxins and excess water to reduce inflammation and rebalance the cellular environment.

Harnessing the power of betalains, a rare and potent class of antioxidants that flourish in the Nopal cactus, not only helps to fight inflammation, it combats the poisons that attack our bodies on a daily basis. These poisons in our body come from the air we breather, the water we drink, and the food we eat; Nopalea ™ attacks these poisons where they strike us first: right inside the trillions of cells in our bodies.

According to Marcelle Pick, NP OB/GYN, "our bodies weren’t designed for modern life. We’re sitting ducks to a daily barrage of toxins, infectious agents and stress, seen and unseen. This kind of demand requires a lot of support to maintain your immune’s system resilience. Our go-go lifestyle just doesn’t make room unless we pay attention – to everything: what we breathe, eat, drink and absorb and feel. It all has a pro- or anti-inflammatory effect, and for most of us, the factors are skewed toward inflammation."[6]

We need to protect our bodies against these poisons on a daily basis, and that’s not just the cells inside the body, it also includes your skin. Your skin is a miraculous covering that protects you from harm. Pollution, toxins, radiation and other potentially damaging influences are kept out of your body by your skin; vital organs are protected inside. One of the first signs of aging is thin, sagging, withered skin that is easily damaged. Nopalea’s betalains are working outside your body to help protect your skin.

Nopalea™ rushes to these damaged areas to shore up your protective layer. The betalains in Sonoran Bloom Nopalea™ fill in the gaps of your cells (including the cells in your skin) and return them to the firm, robust nature of young cells – at any age. By providing a healthy environment for the cell, betalains keep it from withering.

If it’s true what Hippocrates said, "all disease is one", and if the majority of diseases are in some way related to inflammation and toxins, doesn’t it make sense to try TriVita’s Sonoran Bloom Nopalea™, which has the powerful antioxidant betalains.

If inflammation is the problem – Nopalea™ may be the solution.

Omega-3 and Healthy Eyes?

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

I’ve written several articles about omega-3 and the health benefits associated with essential fatty acids (EFSs). In a recent press release concerning a mouse study of the effects of omega-3s on age-related macular degeneration (AMD), the American Journal of Pathology called frequent enjoyment of fish the "see food" diet (AJP 2009).

Age-related macular degeneration causes retinal damage that cuts vision in the center of the visual field (macula)… and is the leading cause of severe vision loss and legal blindness among the elderly.

About one in 10 of people from 66 to 74 years of age develop some level of macular degeneration, making it difficult for them to read, or even to recognize faces.

Here’s a quote from the press release from the American Journal of Pathology:

"A diet high in omega-3 fatty acids has been found to protect against a variety of diseases including atherosclerosis and Alzheimer’s disease. Retrospective studies have suggested that diets high in fish oil or omega-3 fatty acids may also contribute to protection against AMD.

A group led by Dr. Chi-Chao Chan at the National Eye Institute, National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD examined the direct effect of omega-3 fatty acids on a mouse model of AMD. A diet with high levels of omega-3 fatty acids resulted in slower lesion progression, with improvement in some lesions. These mice had lower levels of inflammatory molecules and higher levels of anti-inflammatory molecules, which may explain this protective effect." [1]

Omega-3 fatty acids are essential to human health, which now includes the eyes, but they cannot be manufactured by the body. For this reason, omega-3 fatty acids must be obtained from food. Omega-3 fatty acids can be found in fish, such as salmon, tuna, and halibut, other marine life such as algae and krill, certain plants (including purslane), and nut oils.

You can also get omega-3 essential fatty acids through supplementation. As a matter of fact many supplements are less contaminate risky than some seafood. Since mercury contanination is a big concern of a lot of individuals, TriVita has taken the extra steps to insure mercury-free omega-3, and it comes in the form of their Omega Prime.

Omega Prime is a supplement that gives you the needed omega-3 essential fatty acids to maintain a healthy omega-3 balance.

Before the recent study, omega-3 was considered more of an inflammation fighter, and a nutrient to protect your heart. As a matter of fact, Omega Prime meets the American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines. One daily dose of Omega Prime provides the amount of Omega-3 recommended by the AHA for healthy individuals, as well as for those who have heart disease or the risk of it.

Start protecting your heart, fight inflammation, and protect your eyes by including omega-3 into your daily diet.

Vitamin B-12

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

Vitamin B-12 is an important vitamin that you usually get from your food. It is mainly found in meat and dairy products. Vitamin B-12 helps make red blood cells and keeps your nervous system working properly.

It’s been noted by many health professionals that stress can interfere with B12 absorption by upsetting the balance of acids in your stomach. It’s the acids in your stomach that helps to separate B12 from your food so it can be absorbed by your body.

Studies have revealed that when your body is under any form of stress, it goes into "fight or flight" mode. That’s where your body gathers all available resources – nutrients – to "fight" the stressor. It’s possible for your body to deplete all these nutrients to "fight" that unwanted stress. It’s unfortunate but the B vitamins are some of the first nutrients to be depleted by stress.

Since stress can deplete your body of the necessary b-12 vitamin, it’s important to make sure your getting your fill of b-12. So, how can we make sure we’re getting of daily requirement of vitamin b-12? By eating foods that are rich in b12. The best sources of vitamin B12 are animal products such as meat, milk, egg, and cheese. What about vegetarians?

Vegetarians can wind up becoming vitamin B-12 deficient if they don’t check their nutrition level regularly. That’s why vegans usually take nutritional supplements to correct the nutritional gap that they are losing when they do not eat meat. Since the recommended daily intake for vitamin B12 is 2.0 micrograms, supplements are the best source of b-12 for vegans. And supplements are the second way a person can get their recommended daily requirement of b-12.

Vitamin B12 deficiency can become a major problem, not just for vegans, for many individuals. And it usually results from inadequate absorption of the nutrients in the digestive system. Stress does interfere with B12 absorption. However, "impaired absorption is typically rooted to the inability of the body to absorb vitamin B12 due to recurring or external factors such as aging, complication, diseases, and other infections." [1]

Out of all the external factors that lead to impaired absorption, I believe age is actually what leads to our largest vitamin b-12 deficiency problem. This also leads to a major healthcare system problem. Why? As the largest portion of our population (the baby-boomers) continues to age the number of vitamin b-12 deficiency is bound to increase, because the older you get the harder it is for the body to absorb this nutrient.

If the baby-boomers don’t do something, like supplementing their diet with b-12 vitamins, they will bet taxing our already struggling healthcare system. The best supplement I’ve found on the market is TriVita’s Sublingual B-12. The reason I’ve found this one to be the best is because of it’s patented delivery system. Since we’ve already discovered that absorption is the major problem, getting b-12 into the body is key, and that’s exactly what happens with Sublingual B-12.

With TriVita’s Sublingual B12, you can be assured that your body is getting the B vitamins it needs. The original, patented formula bypasses the digestive system, speeding the nutrients directly to your bloodstream, where they can go to work right away.

Without being able to absorb b-12 from the food you eat, and without taking a daily b-12 supplement, your third option would be to get b-12 injections (shots). Most injections require a doctor’s office visit. However, there are places where you can buy vitamin b-12 and administer the shot at home. Before using that type of medicine, make sure you get a health care professional to provide detailed instructions and the appropriate use of this medicine. As with any supplement, always contact a healthcare professional, or your doctor.

Don’t fall into the vitamin b-12 deficiency trap. If you’re aging, and who isn’t, ask your doctor or healthcare professional if taking a b-12 supplement is right for you. If they say yes, try TriVita’s patented Sublingual B-12.

Sonoran Bloom Nopalea

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

According to a newsletter I received from Health Resources, they report that it’s not just plaque from cholesterol that clogs your arteries. In this informative newsletter I’ve found more good information regarding the importance of ridding your body of harmful toxins.

"When it comes to heart disease and clogged arteries, you may think it only results from plaque build-up. However, toxic chemicals and heavy metals also lurk in your bloodstream and play an important role in your health. If left to roam around in your body, these toxins can cause headaches, depression, insomnia, abdominal pain, constipation and impaired kidney function." – Layne Lowery, President of Health Resources.

There was also more information from a link that was attached to the newsletter. With that in mind, I like to share some of this important information regarding toxins, and how to rid your body of the silent killers.

Back in the late 1940s, U.S. medical doctors faced a daunting task. Workers employed by battery factories were coming down with lead poisoning. In addition, U.S. Navy sailors painting ships and dock facilities with lead-based paints were also suffering from lead poisoning.

Lead poisoning was, and is, a serious problem because exposure to even small amounts of lead can cause your blood pressure to go through the roof and/or damage your brain, nervous system, stomach and kidneys. To find a remedy, doctors turned to a relatively new treatment: The intravenous injection of an amino acid, EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid).

EDTA was first used in World War II by the British as an antidote for poison gas inhalation.

Based on scientific research, doctors believed EDTA had the ability to grab onto heavy metals like a "claw," and sweep them out of the body. And they were right! So in 1948, the U.S. Navy began to use EDTA to treat lead poisoning.

Fast forward to 2009, sixty-plus years later, and we still have many toxins, not so much lead, that our systems have to fight on a daily basis. Daily, we’re exposed to toxins in our air, water and food-and even toxins created by our own bodies. Living with poison in your body can be deadly!

When toxins assault your system–or when injury or infection strikes–your body responds with a complex biological process commonly referred to as inflammation. If this inflammation goes unchecked, it can lead to a wide variety of disorders, from stroke to arthritis to heart disease.

TriVita has discovered the power of betalains, a rare and potent class of antioxidants that flourish in the Nopal cactus. They have found a way to process this fruit from heaven into a daily nutritional drink called Nopalea™. Nopalea delivers scientifically proven health benefits, and combines its betalains, natural antioxidants, with other anti-toxic ingredients to combat these poisons where they strike us first: right inside the trillions of cells in our bodies.

By increasing the activity of CYP-2E1, a special enzyme that neutralizes daily toxins, Nopalea™ protects your cells and vital organs–especially your liver–against the carcinogens, hormone disruptors, respiratory toxins, developmental toxins and neurotoxins that are responsible for one-quarter of all the world’s diseases.

Nopalea™ specifically targets signs of inflammation in your body and reduces them quickly.[1] Its betalains and other anti-inflammatory ingredients work directly on the fluid surrounding your cells. There, they draw off the toxins and excess water to reduce inflammation and rebalance the cellular environment.

When you drink Nopalea™, you take these betalains into your system, where they begin to restore your vitality on a cellular level. By helping the body reduce the toxins surrounding your cells and enabling essential nutrients to reach each cell, the betalains in Nopalea can reduce the inflammation in your body that leads to disease.

Sonoran Bloom Nopalea™ also helps to neutralize free radicals. Free radicals are so dangerous, they’ve been implicated in more than 100 serious health problems for humans and animals. If the free radicals are left unchecked, they can damage cells and DNA, change biochemicals, destroy cell membranes and even kill cells.

Every day your body is under attack by free radicals, through your normal body processes and through the environment. Our bodies are normally capable of neutralizing free radicals. But if there’s too much free radical oxidation, your body is overwhelmed. The result? Your free radical system is unbalanced and damage occurs. Free radical damage can accelerate aging and triggers life-threatening health problems. [2]

Fighting these free radicals is crucial to maintain a healthy body. I’ve already mentioned this but it’s so important it deserves another mention; Sonoran Bloom Nopalea™ helps to neutralize free radicals.

If you’re worried about the damaging toxins (and not just lead) in your body, or suffer from inflammation, start taking Sonoran Bloom Nopalea today! According to some user’s testimonials, Nopalea™ start to work immediately.

"Sometimes my sinuses get so blocked, I can hardly breathe, and it wakes me up at night. Recently, I took a prescribed nasal spray, which hardly gave me any relief. Then, I decided to take my Nopalea™. Within minutes, I felt calm and the inflammation in my sinuses decreased to the point where I could rest comfortably. When I finally got up to start my day, I felt rested, refreshed and was breathing freely again. Thank you, Trivita for Nopalea!"

Nitrogen: Source of Energy?

Saturday, July 25th, 2009

In a effort to keep the readers of this blog informed, every once in a while I’ll post a newsletter I receive in its entirety. Well today is that day. Mr. Brazos Minchew, Chief Science Officer for TriVita, writes in the TriVita’s Weekly Wellness Report about energy, and the unexpected source, nitrogen.

I hear people all the time saying how tired they feel. Is being tired the result of a lack of energy? Or is it the lack of energy that makes you tired? Mr. Minchew will try to unpack the theory surrounding our lack of energy. Below is the complete article by Mr. Minchew.

An Unexpected Source of Energy: Nitrogen

Everyone creates energy. However, not everyone feels energetic.

Merely existing is not enough. Being energetic, feeling a zest for life – this is a much better way to live. It’s having the resources you need to accomplish whatever you want: to make your dreams come true, or for the smaller tasks of the day. Feeling energetic inspires optimism and healthy self-esteem. Feeling energetic makes you happy and gives you hope.

Real energy
Real energy is more than just a passing mood. It’s a complex series of biochemical and electrical processes. In order for you to feel energetic your body must carry out a long series of interactions, very much like a long line of dominos falling over in the right sequence. Each transaction requires the energy from the previous domino, and donates energy to the next domino in line. The end result contributes to the way you feel and your ability to live the life of your dreams.

The first step in the production of energy is eating the basic nutrients: sugars, proteins and fats. Sugars provide a rapid but brief donation of energy. Proteins donate five times more energy than sugar. Fats donate eight times more! These three nutrients make up the basis for energy production and the basis for your future wellness. This makes the selection of your foods very important, so choose them well.

The nitrogen cycle
To make energy from protein we must first process it through the nitrogen cycle. You may remember that the air we breathe is about 78 percent nitrogen. Bacteria in the soil "fix" nitrogen into the earth to grow healthy plants (so does lightning). Fertilizers are mostly made of nitrogen. Without it, plants will not grow and humans cannot process protein; nitrogen is a very important basic building block of life.

We get nitrogen from eating fruits and vegetables. We can also get it from whole-food supplements such as Adaptogen 10 Plus. In our body, nitrogen is stable as nitrate and active as nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is probably the most important source of energy for the heart, vascular system and immune system. Nitric oxide interacts with CoEnzyme Q-10 (CoQ-10) to produce energy inside each and every one of our body’s millions of cells. In fact, the death of each cell occurs because nitric oxide and CoQ-10 cannot balance the cell’s energy.

Protein and nitrogen needs
We need about 50 to 65 grams of protein each day (about 1/3 gram of protein per pound of body weight). However, we can only digest about 25 grams at a time (the amount that fills the palm of your hand). One reason for this is that we have only a limited reservoir of nitrogen. As mentioned, we get nitrogen from eating fruits and vegetables, but, like many important nutrients, we cannot store it. Since processing protein will use up large amounts of available nitrogen, we need to replace it by eating more fruits and vegetables. So, if we want energy from protein, we simply must eat our fruits and vegetables.

Nitrogen is also manufactured by bacteria in the human body. So, this is why probiotics and enzymes are needed – they also help convert protein into energy through the nitrogen cycle. TriVita’s Digestive Complex serves to encourage healthy bacteria in the gut for protein metabolism and increased energy.

The nitrogen danger
There is a dark side to protein metabolism that’s found in a particular form of nitrogen: ammonia. Excess ammonia may be formed in our body and brain if we eat protein but do not have enough nitrogen to complete the energy process. This is often seen in people who experience bloating or uncomfortable fullness after a healthy, protein-rich meal. It may also be seen in those who experience excessive fatigue after a meal.

The remedy is to encourage protein digestion with probiotics (as found in Digestive Complex). We can also eat extra servings of fruit and vegetables. Plus, supplements can provide a lot of help. I would suggest one serving of Adaptogen 10 Plus and CoQ-10 at each meal until the fatigue eases and vibrant energy replaces it!

Living a life lacking energy is no way to live. The science behind TriVita’s products makes them one of the leading nutritional companies in the US. I’m not a doctor, nor have I ever suggested that I was, but I do know that all of the TriVita products have come about because of thorough scientific studies.

Fight Inflammation With Nopalea

Friday, July 24th, 2009

Inflammation is defined as a localized reaction of tissue to irritation, injury, or infection. Symptoms of inflammation include pain, swelling, red coloration to the area, and sometimes loss of movement or function. Although we commonly think of inflammation as the painful component of arthritis, inflammation is also a component of chronic diseases such as heart disease and strokes.

According to TriVita’s Sonoran Bloom Nopalea™ web site, "If inflammation is the problem, Nopalea™ is the solution!"

Many chronic diseases start with inflammation. Sonoran Bloom Nopalea™ drives down inflammation created by trauma, toxins, allergy, infection and nutrient deficiency. To protect yourself from the nutrient deficiencies that can be a cause of inflammation, you should supplement your healthy diet with daily nutrients.

If you suffer from inflammation, the most common medical anti-inflammatory treatments include rest, light exercise, weight maintenance, stretching, and medications designed to reduce the inflammation and control the pain. However, some medications can be very expensive, and many medicines, according to health professionals, have adverse affects on the human body.

On the other hand, Nopalea™ is a natural, concentrated wellness drink made from the Nopal cactus fruit, which is harvested from the Sonoran Desert at the peak of its freshness. From there, the fruit is juiced to a puree and bottled in a state-of-the-art facility, which ensures quality and freshness while also preserving the antioxidants and their potency.

What about the the food we eat? Can it be helpful to fight inflammation, or can it increase inflammation?

There are many pro-inflammatory foods that people eat on a regular basis, like "junk foods, high-fat meats, sugar and fast foods. All of these pro-inflammation foods will increase inflammation in your body. This is partially due to the unhealthy fats used in preparing and processing these foods, especially trans fats and saturated fats. Processed meats such as lunch meats, hot dogs and sausages contain chemicals such as nitrites that are associated with increased inflammation and chronic disease." [1]

Eating foods that fight inflammation and avoiding pro-inflammatory foods is your best bet. However, on some days, we’re forced to grab a fast food lunch and/or dinner. Our lives are filled with many obstacles, and sometimes we cannot always eat a healthy meal. But, if you suffer from inflammation, which can lead to chronic diseases such as heart disease and strokes, maybe, just maybe, taking an all natural daily supplement like Nopalea™ is right for you.

It’s the Betalains within the Nopal cactus that provides natural antioxidants to a polluted human body. Pollutants, or toxins, from the air we breathe, and the water we drink, are just part of what causes inflammation. Harnessing the power of betalains that flourish in the Nopal cactus, is what gives Nopalea the power to fight inflammation and detoxify the body.

Nopalea™ combines its betalains with other anti-toxic ingredients to combat the toxins (poisons) where they strike us first: right inside the trillions of cells in our bodies. Yes, you read that correctly, Nopalea fights what gives our bodies the most problems, right at the cellular level.

Nopalea™ specifically "targets signs of inflammation in your body and reduces them quickly." [2] Its betalains and other anti-inflammatory ingredients work directly on the fluid surrounding your cells. There, they draw off the toxins and excess water to reduce inflammation and rebalance the cellular environment.

Remember, "If inflammation is the problem, Nopalea™ is the solution!"

If you’re a person that suffers from inflammation, maybe it’s time to give TriVita’s Sonoran Bloom Nopalea™ a try. Give your cells a fighting chance and try it today!

Vitamin C

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Many of us have heard about the importance of vitamin C, yet we sometimes forget and need a reminder of the many benefits of this all important vitamin. With that said, I’ve gathered some information from the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMM). Because this vitamin is so important to your health, I’ve left the majority of the site’s content intact, and I give UMM full credit for this information.

"Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin, meaning that your body doesn’t store it. You get what we need, instead, from food. You need vitamin C for the growth and repair of tissues in all parts of your body. It helps the body make collagen, an important protein in skin, cartilage, tendons, ligaments, and blood vessels. Vitamin C is essential for healing wounds, and for repairing and maintaining bones and teeth.

Vitamin C is an antioxidant. Antioxidants block some of the damage caused by free radicals, which occur naturally when our bodies transform food into energy. The build-up of free radicals over time may be largely responsible for the aging process and can contribute to the development of health conditions such as cancer, heart disease, and arthritis.

Some evidence suggests that many people may be mildly deficient in vitamin C, although serious deficiencies are rare in industrialized countries. Smoking cigarettes lowers the amount of vitamin C in the body, so smokers are more at risk of deficiency. Signs of vitamin deficiency include dry and splitting hair; gingivitis (inflammation of the gums) and bleeding gums; rough, dry, scaly skin; decreased wound-healing rate, easy bruising; nosebleeds; and a decreased ability to ward off infection. A severe form of vitamin C deficiency is known as scurvy.

Low levels of vitamin C have been associated with a number of conditions, including high blood pressure, gallbladder disease, stroke, some cancers, and atherosclerosis (the build-of plaque in blood vessels that can lead to heart attack and stroke). Getting enough vitamin C from your diet (by eating lots of fruit and vegetables) may help reduce the risk of developing some of these conditions. The evidence that taking vitamin C supplements will help or prevent any of these conditions is lacking, however.

Results of scientific studies on whether vitamin C is helpful for preventing heart attack or stroke are mixed. Vitamin C doesn’t lower cholesterol levels or reduce the overall risk of heart attack, but some evidence suggests that it may help protect arteries against damage.

Some studies — though not all — suggest that vitamin C, acting as an antioxidant, can slow down the progression of atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). It helps prevent damage to LDL ("bad") cholesterol, which then builds up as plaque in the arteries and can cause heart attack or stroke. Other studies suggest that vitamin C may help keep arteries flexible.

In addition, people who have low levels of vitamin C may be more likely to have a heart attack, stroke, or peripheral artery disease, all potential results of having atherosclerosis. Peripheral artery disease is the term used to describe atherosclerosis of the blood vessels to the legs. This can lead to pain when walking, known as intermittent claudication. But there is no evidence that taking vitamin C supplements will help.

The best thing to do is get enough vitamin C through your diet. That way, you also get the benefit of other antioxidants and nutrients contained in food. If you have low levels of vitamin C and have trouble getting enough through the foods you eat, ask your doctor about taking a supplement.

Vitamin C (500 mg) appears to work with other antioxidants, including zinc (80 mg), beta-carotene (15 mg), and vitamin E (400 IU) to protect the eyes against developing macular degeneration (AMD), the leading cause of legal blindness in people over 55 in the United States. The people who seem to benefit are those with advanced AMD. It isn’t known whether this combination of nutrients helps prevent AMD or is beneficial for people with less advanced AMD.

Some excellent sources of vitamin C are oranges, green peppers, watermelon, papaya, grapefruit, cantaloupe, strawberries, kiwi, mango, broccoli, tomatoes, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage, and citrus juices or juices fortified with vitamin C. Raw and cooked leafy greens (turnip greens, spinach), red and green peppers, canned and fresh tomatoes, potatoes, winter squash, raspberries, blueberries, cranberries, and pineapple are also rich sources of vitamin C. Vitamin C is sensitive to light, air, and heat, so you’ll get the most vitamin C if you eat fruits and vegetables raw or lightly cooked." [1]

Since vitamin c is so important to your health, and it’s so sensitive to light, air, and heat, I believe you should take a daily supplement to make sure you get enough of this essential vitamin. This is my choice for a healthier body, and I’m not alone!

Dr. Alfred Libby and two-time Nobel Prize winner Dr. Linus Pauling considered Vitamin C absolutely vital to good health. So much so that Dr. Pauling wrote extensively about its extraordinary importance in his book on living longer.

In the early 1990s, several large population studies showed a reduction in cardiovascular disease in those who consumed vitamin C. The most significant report came from UCLA in 1992, where it was announced that men who took 800 mg a day of vitamin C lived six years longer than those who consumed the FDA’s recommended daily allowance of 60 mg a day. The study, which evaluated 11,348 participants over a ten year period of time, showed that high vitamin C intake extended average life span and reduced mortality from cardiovascular disease by 42%. This study was published in the journal Epidemiology (1992; 3:3, pp 194-202).

Separately, Thomas Levy, MD, JD, Cardiologist has said this, "The lower your vitamin C blood and tissue levels go, the greater your chances of developing significant heart disease."

Most pharmaceutical companies claim that all supplements are the same. I believe there is a difference between many supplements. Although I don’t have all the answers, I personally prefer the Vitamin C crystals, developed by Dr. Libby. Although this is what I prefer, it’s up to you to find the supplements that deliver the best results for you.

After reading this article, I think we can all AGREE on the importance of vitamin c. It’s not a mystery regarding the benefits of vitamin c. Case studies and scientific evidence has proven that vitamin c is essential to your daily diet. If you’re not getting enough through your regular diet, TriVita’s Vitamin C crystals may be right for you.

Energy Now!

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

Do you find it difficult making it through the day, or are you constantly tired throughout the day? You problem may be that you lack energy. TriVita has solved that nagging problem with a product called Energy Now!.

Every day, you encounter stressful situations that sap the energy from your body. You become exhausted and irritable from the stress because your body uses too much of the amino acid, phenylalanine. Energy Now! is rich with natural phenylalanine – fueling brain function and providing you with the alertness and mental clarity you need to live life to its fullest.

The oxygen balance inside cells is critical to feeling your best. To prevent oxygen starvation within your cells, Energy Now! includes natural antioxidant polyphenols from green tea and cocoa which increase oxygen delivery and give your body what it needs for maximum energy production.

The spark in your energy cycle comes from your nervous system, including your brain. Your brain relies on B Vitamins to fuel its processes and provide a nutrient-rich environment for mental clarity, mood balance and energy production. The CoQ10, B-1, B-2, B-3, B-5 and B-6 vitamins found in Energy Now! assist in this process, and provide the ignition your brain needs to recharge its energy supply.

"I saw James Robison on TV and got TriVita’s Sublingual B-12 and Energy Now! I’ve been taking it for several years, except when I was in remission for about a year. I’m 62 years old and care for my mother. With CFS, I have no stamina, feel weak and have pain in all of my joints. On bad days I also have blurred vision, mental fog, and I’m so weak I can’t even hold up a paperback book. Energy Now! is the reason for my dramatic improvement. It gives me much more energy and stamina. I just thank God for it. I take two in the morning and another one after lunch. But I’d tell anyone to play it by ear and adjust individually… sometimes I need just one in the morning or take two in the afternoon. But I want everyone with chronic fatigue to know that Energy Now! really helps me."
- Virginia C. Lexington, MS

Some people have been worried about phenylalanine and some possible health risks that associated with it. However, according to the Mayo Clinic, "phenylalanine isn’t a problem for most people."

Katherine Zeratsky, R.D., L.D. of the Mayo Clinic says that "phenylalanine is found in protein-rich foods, such as milk, cheese, nuts, seeds, poultry and fish. It’s also found in diet foods, such as diet soda, which contains aspartame.&"

"Phenylalanine isn’t a problem for most people. Diet sodas contain a warning about phenylalanine because it can pose a risk to people who have phenylketonuria (PKU). PKU is a rare condition in which the body cannot process phenylalanine. If you don’t have PKU, don’t worry about phenylalanine in your diet soda," she concludes.

Energy Now! is safe unless you do suffer from PKU. Before taking any supplement, it’s best to contact your health care professional, and/or doctor.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Monday, July 20th, 2009

Did you know that your brain is made up of 60% fat? And did you know that the neurons that communicate messages to your brain need high concentrations of omega-3 fatty acids to get the job done? If you answered no to one of both of these questions, chances are, you’re not getting enough omega-3 essential fatty acids (EFAs).

If you’re not getting enough omega-3’s—your brain is one of the first organs to feel the effects. And that means…

  • Sluggish thinking and mental fog
  • "Senior moments" and forgetfulness
  • Poor concentration and memory recall
  • Inability to learn new things
  • Mood swings and sadness

In fact, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that mood problems will become the second leading cause of disability worldwide by 2020. [1]

And researchers say this increase may be due to the fact that we’re eating fewer amounts of essential omega-3’s. It’s suggested that we should not take a chance with our brain health. We need to make sure we boost our levels of healthy omega-3’s.

"Regular fish consumption (1-2 servings per week) is protective against coronary heart disease and ischaemic stroke and is recommended. The serving should provide an equivalent of 200-500 mg of eicosapentaenoic and docosahexaenoic acid. People who are vegetarians are recommended to ensure adequate intake of plant sources of a-linolenic acid." [2]

If you’re not a fish eater, like many people, it’s never been easier to get your regular dose of omega-3 because TriVita’s Omega Prime contains healthy omega-3’s, EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), which are both found only in coldwater fish like salmon and herring.

With a healthy dose of 400 mg of omega-3—you get powerful omega-3 supplementation to help boost your brain and body health.

Other ingredients in Omega Prime are organic flaxseed oil, which contains "alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), an essential fatty acid that appears to be beneficial for heart disease, inflammatory bowel disease, arthritis, and other health conditions"[3], and evening primrose oil, which "contains an omega-6 essential fatty acid, gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), which is believed to be the active ingredient."[4]

Omega Prime not only protects the brain, but also meets the American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines for omega-3 intake. One daily dose of Omega Prime provides the amount of Omega-3 recommended by the AHA for healthy individuals, as well as for those who have heart disease or the risk of it.

Now, you can protect your brain and heart at the same time by taking a daily supplement, TriVita’s Omega Prime.

Vitamin D

Friday, July 17th, 2009

In an email newsletter I received from Health Resource, president Layne Lowery said, "Vitamin D deficiency can produce a whole laundry list of severe ailments including decreased bone strength… high cholesterol levels… heart trouble… memory loss… aching joints… energy drain… and mood swings, just to name a few. And if you are over the age of 50, you face a higher risk since your body can’t properly absorb vitamin D from natural sunlight."

If you’ve read any of my previous articles regarding vitamin D and its powerful effects on the human body, you’d understand what Mr. Lowery is saying. Vitamin D has been scientifically proven to provide you with a wide variety of health benefits that last for the long term.

Do you remember you mother telling you to drink your milk, and that you need the calcium and vitamin D to build strong bone? There was a lot of wisdom in your mothers words. Hopefully you followed her recommendation. However, vitamin D is not all about healthy bones. There have been a lot of studies done on vitamin D and some of the results are mind-boggling.

In a study done by Australian scientists, they have noted that "an inverse correlation between the condition of very sick patients and their levels of vitamin D."

"In other words, the sickest patients in the intensive care unit analyzed by researchers from Sydney’s Garvan Institute of Medical Research also had the lowest levels of vitamin D. In fact, among the 42 patients studied there were three deaths, and the deceased had the lowest levels of vitamin D in the cohort." [1]

Dr. Paul Lee, one of the researchers in the study, says "vitamin D has been linked to sugar control, heart function, gut integrity, immunity and defense against infection." [1]

"Patients in ICU suffer from different degrees of inflammation, infection, heart dysfunction, diarrhea and metabolic deregulation, so vitamin D deficiency may play a role in each of these common ICU conditions," he adds. [1]

The Australian scientists that conducted this study speculate that when we are very sick, the body draws upon any vitamin D available to function properly, and so we may need extra supplementation to maintain organ function during critical illness. Furthermore, bedridden patients are at an increased risk of bone loss and osteoporosis, and nutritional supplements containing vitamin D, which is safe even at high doses and inexpensive, may be a good idea anyway, they stress. [1]

TriVita has developed VitaCal-Mag D, which provides five forms of chelated calcium, over 20 bone-fortifying vitamins and minerals, 100% RDI of Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc and Vitamin D, within Chlorophyll-coated tablets that protect the valuable nutrients, which are time-releasing for optimal absorption.

It’s possible that you can quickly restore healthy levels of vitamin D with VitaCal-Mag D from TriVita and may even reverse many of your most dangerous health problems.

You can learn more about vitamin D, and if supplementation is right for you. I’m not a doctor or health care professional, so I can’t say if you need a vitamin D supplement However, from my research, I believe that if you’re not getting enough sunlight exposure, or eating foods high in vitamin D, you should do something.
